Privacy Policy

Tellbit is made for the people closest to you, so we keep what we collect small and we tell you plainly what it is. This policy explains what the Tellbit app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and this website, collect and how they are used.

Tellbit is operated by VR BROS LLC, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@vrbrosllc.com.

What we collect

To create your account and run the app:

• Your name. The name you type when you start, and any name you later change it to. It is how the people you connect with see you.
• A profile photo, only if you choose to add one.
• Your time zone, so your Insights line up with your day.
• An account identifier and a device credential. Tellbit does not ask for an email address, phone number or password. Instead, your device keeps a private credential that proves the account is yours. It is stored in your device's Keychain, and can sync through your own iCloud Keychain.
• A push notification token, so we can deliver notifications to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

What you create and do in the app:

• Your Tellbits: the words, icons, colors and collections you create, and who each one goes to.
• Your connections: the people you have connected with, and any private nickname you give them.
• Sends and replies: each time a Tellbit is sent, when, and whether it was seen or answered with "Got it". This powers your History and Insights, including a time you correct after the fact.

Only if you choose it:

• Sign in with Apple. If you secure your account with your Apple ID, we receive a private identifier from Apple so the account can be restored on a new device. We do not receive your email address unless you choose to share it, and Hide My Email keeps it private.
• Camera. If you scan a friend's invite QR code, the camera is used on your device to read the code. We do not receive or store camera images.

We do not collect your phone contacts, your location, your email address, advertising identifiers or health data.

How we use it

• To run Tellbit: to deliver your Tellbits and replies, show your History and Insights, and keep your account working across your devices.
• To send notifications you have asked for, such as a Tellbit arriving or someone answering "Got it".
• To keep the service secure and to prevent misuse, for example by limiting how often requests can be made.

We do not use your information for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Who can see what

Your Tellbits, connections and history are visible to you and to the people you have connected with, as follows.

• Someone sees a Tellbit only if you chose them as a recipient.
• If you turn on sharing for a Tellbit, the people on it can send it too, and they can see its history, who sent it, and who else is on it.
• A connection can see your name and, if you added one, your profile photo. Nobody else can.
• You can stop sharing, archive a Tellbit, remove a connection or block someone at any time.

Who handles data for us

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We use a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf, only to run Tellbit:

• MongoDB Atlas stores the app's data.
• Our hosting provider runs the Tellbit servers.
• Apple delivers push notifications (Apple Push Notification service), provides Sign in with Apple, and provides iCloud Keychain sync if you use it.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and of Tellbit.

Storage on your device

Tellbit keeps a copy of your recent Tellbits, connections and preferences on your device so the app opens quickly, along with your account credential in the Keychain. Widgets and the Apple Watch app keep a small copy of what they need to show. Removing the app removes this local data, apart from Keychain items that iOS may keep.

This website

tellbit.app does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. If you use the light and dark switch, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage, and you can clear it at any time. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our systems straight away, and any remaining copies in backups are removed within 30 days. Messages you send to us by email are kept for as long as needed to help you.

Your choices and rights

You can change your name, add or remove your photo, archive Tellbits and leave shared Tellbits inside the app.

To delete your account, open Tellbit, go to your profile, and choose Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, your Tellbits, your connections and your History, and it cannot be undone. If you cannot use the app, email hello@vrbrosllc.com from the details we can match to your account and we will do it for you.

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you also have the rights that the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. We respond to requests within 30 days.

Our legal basis for using your data is that it is needed to provide the service you asked for, together with our legitimate interest in keeping it secure.

Security

Data travels between the app and our servers over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Your account credential is stored in the iOS Keychain. Access to our systems is limited to people who need it to run Tellbit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to fix problems quickly.

Children

Tellbit is made for families and friends, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Younger children should use it only with a parent or guardian, on the parent's account. If you believe a child has given us personal data without a parent's involvement, write to us and we will delete it.

International transfers

We are based in the United Arab Emirates and our providers may process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. When we transfer data across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards so it stays protected.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell you in the app.
